People have been asking a lot on what polygel really is and how it differs from acrylic. Ok, let me give you a quick Nail Extension Polygel enlightenment. 😉
Nail Extension Polygel, also known as "Polygel" is essentially the combination of acrylic and gel, yes! Combining both their good qualities but with the use of a curing lamp which helps solidify the polygel.
There are so many ways to do polygel, but one of the easiest ways for beginners to use Polygel is to use what we call Dual Forms! Dual forms are used to mold the polygel so you get the shape of the nail without having to pat down the polygel and shape it. With polygel, there is no monomer to mix so it's odor-free and beginner friendly. It was designed to be used easily like a paste, but with a thicker and stickier texture. Easy..we'll get to the good stuff below on why it's designed that way!
As we had mentioned, there are several ways to use polygel. You can also use clear nail moulds or paper forms that are designed with the perfect length and shape the polygel into or on top of the forms so that it's convenient for you to choose and control the length you want to do.
Another pro tip, Polygel can also be applied as an overlay on your natural nails, or as a nail enhancement. It is cured under UV light and is more flexible and lightweight compared to acrylic, (but is stronger than regular gel nails). It also has a much lighter fragrance, which is great for people that like the look of acrylics but can’t stand the strong smell!
Note: To prevent stickiness as you apply the gel on the dual forms or paper forms, you can dip your brush in slip solution or use 70% isopropyl alcohol. Base coat can also be used as a substitute for alcohol or slip solution.
Another question of course is "How to remove the polygel?" You can remove Polygel nails by buffing them off or soaking them with soap and water for a period of time until it softens. Because most of us are busy with everything and still want to have that gorgeous nails, I highly recommend you to use a nail drill. Easy! No need to be a professional to do this. We don't only have professional nail drills but we also have easy-to-use, beginner friendly nail equipments! I think everyone needs them and here's why! Because nobody wants to spend too much time soaking and manually nail filing the polygel away. It will take forever, believe me!
Another question is, "How long Polygel Extension Nails usually last?
Just like most of the things we buy, with proper care and application, polygel nails can last up to 4 weeks. You can also extend its lifetime by using a nail dehydrator or nail primer; and you can retouch your nails by refilling them every two weeks to keep it looking fresh! 💅🏻

Step 1: Squeeze the polygel (yes just like toothpaste!) into the dual form that comes in every polygel kit and wet your brush with alcohol or slip solution and tap to mold. Don't worry if it's not smooth! |
Step 2: Press it onto your natural nail by placing the tip over the cuticle at a 45-degree angle and then lowering it onto the tip. Press firmly to avoid any bubbles, then you can go in and correct any imperfections using the brush. Cure it using an LED lamp for 3 minutes and pop-off! | Step 3: File the nail to whatever shape you prefer (btw, polygel is super easy to file!) and finish off with a glossy or matte top coat and you've now got super baddie long nails! |
Additional Step:
Before you finish off with the top coat, you can always play with nail charms and sequins to get that gorgeous nail look that you are aiming for. Apply the top coat after and cure for thirty seconds! And that's how to create perfect polygel nails!
