Dip Powder Manicure VS Polygel! Is It For Me?

Hey Babes!

Let’s talk about nail dipping powder and its importance based on your nail needs!

I know a lot of you are interested in trying the dip powder manicure. But the million dollar question is, "Is it for you"?

To get started, let me give you a quick introduction about Nail Dip System!

What is a nail dipping powder?

As the name says, it is a colored acrylic powder mixed with a glue-type resin that cures in the air to enhance or build the nails. We'll get more into details later on! 😉

How does nail dip powder system work?

It can simply be explained by our 3-Step Formula Procedure but I know you want a more in-debt information! Dip powder manicure is applied with a system of powder and glazes that are used for nail enhancements. Dip powder involves dipping each finger into an acrylic-colored powder, then painting on an activator polish as a top-coat that cures in the air.

This system is good for growing natural nails due to added vitamins and calcium in the dipping powder without damaging your nail bed. So in short, this is a healthy way to do nails naturally!

Remember: It is very important to buff and dehydrate your nail to avoid lifting and chipping.Let’s talk about nail dip history:

Three years after completing nail school in 1997, Denise Gottschalk discovered acrylic dip systems. The fast application and nearly next-to-no-learning curve inspired her to incorporate the technique into her menu, and she’s been offering the service ever since.

In the early ‘80s when fiberglass wraps, gels, and liquid-and-powder acrylic systems were fairly new, many nail techs still opted for a dipping process. It could fix split and broken nails and it was an easier way to overlay natural nails with a flexible, lightweight, soft, and durable finish like gels.

The technology offered a method of strengthening the nail using a powder and adhesive, instead of monomer, which reduced fumes in the salon. The application only utilizes a resin, an activator, and finely milled acrylic powders, which allow it to have no odor.

For newly licensed nail techs or those with less experience, dip systems allowed technicians to work efficiently, and it was convenient. The application and removal process are quick and easy as well.

What is the difference between the nail dip and acrylic?

Oh yes! Dip systems require fewer tools. The dip manicure is easier too because there is no need for acrylic brushes to build the nail, monomer, no curing lamps, electric nail drier, or French cutting tools. It’s geared toward beginners or someone who wants to save time while having that natural looking nail.

Dip powder is a great option as it lasts 3 weeks or longer, depending on the level of at-home care after the manicure. This is almost twice the longevity of your standard gel manicure.

Best manicure while on the job?

For years people have gravitated towards full set acrylics to achieve long nails until now. Dip powder is best for people who do manual labor jobs or those who are on their computers most of the time, like me! I’m on my computer every day doing reports, sending emails, creating articles, researching, and just typing all day long. And for me, I do prefer dip powder nails. Why?

  • First, I could strain my fingers when I type with longer fingernails. Typing texts in my phone also takes longer as well.
  • I can avoid accidentally hurting myself with my nails or scratching my skin.
  • It is also difficult for me to get a grip on anything if I have long acrylic nails. I end up dropping a lot of things in an effort to not break my nails or scratch myself.

In fact, "Dip powder is more lightweight than acrylic, which allows it to wear and tear better and last longer.

Dip powder still allows nail techs to add nail extensions. Once the nail tech adds fake nail tips, they will file the nail down to the requested shape using the hand file or nail drill and then use the "dip" technique to apply a thin layer of colored powder to the nail.

Don’t get me wrong! I love long nails too but It’s just not very convenient on my end. I do long nails over the weekend or if I have some party that I need to attend to but as you know, maintenance and removal is a whole different story!

For busier clients, dip powder is a great option as they last 3 weeks or longer, depending on the level of at-home care after the manicure!
